CLASS RANK

  • Class rank is not calculated, stored, or provided for students until they have completed their junior year. After that point, a student is provided with class rank for the purpose of applying for scholarships or admission to post-secondary institutions when they have completed the necessary paperwork with the high school guidance department.

  • Class rank is a direct result of Cumulative GPA.

  • Because Cumulative GPA is a direct result of final averages, official class rank only changes when courses are complete. Therefore, class rank only changes once per year (at the end of the school year). One may use running calculations to estimate changes in cumulative GPA during the year, but these are (a) estimates and (b) unofficial. The guidance department does not calculate this information for students.

  • To be eligible to be valedictorian or salutatorian, a student must have completed at least two full years at North Pocono High School. Valedictorian and salutatorian are those seniors who, after the submission deadline established by the high school principal for senior final exams and fourth quarter grades near the end of the school year, have the highest and next-highest cumulative GPA, respectively, amongst graduating seniors.
